Entry #9 ~ Social Media
It became more noticeable that in today's world we spend the majority of our times behind screens. Wether it is just scrolling through an app or just texting all day. We have lost contact with the outside world. People spend more time on their phone when they are with family or friends rather than them.
Strong social media users are more likely to have higher risk of depression, self-harm, anxiety, and loneliness. This is because they spend more time on their phones rather than having relations with actual people. Platforms like TikTok, twitter, and instagram are mostly to blame for people this. People can go hours on tiktok without even noticing that the time has passed by. A teens daily screen time is 7 hours and 22 minutes to 8 hours and 39 minutes.
Overall, I think social media has been having more of negative impact to today's world. People should let the phones down more and enjoy the time they have with their friends and love ones. By doing this people will decrease risks of depression and other things.
I think it is crazy that a teens screen time is that high. If we would put that time into something more efficient, we could improve ourselves, but we chose not to. This is so surprising to me. I think people need to spend less time on it me included.
